In a bizarre yet comical chain of events, around 30 people were injured after a funeral procession was attacked by a swarm of honey bees at Hosahalli village of Magadi taluk in Ramanagara district. The mourners fled the scene, leaving the body behind. Draping themselves with gunny bags and blankets, they returned in a few minutes, retrieved the body, carried it to the burial ground and completed the final rites in a rush, a villager said.
The incident was apparently triggered by smoke from incense sticks the mourners were carrying. This disturbed the bees on a banyan tree nearby, resulting in the attack. The injured were admitted to Magadi Government Hospital and are undergoing treatment.
