On Day 1 of the Cape Town Test, Bhuvneshwar Kumar rocked the South African top order with 3 deadly strikes.
The ball was talking and it seemed that India would make further inroads. But one man had other ideas. AB de Villiers – remember the name. Yes, he countered the swing and seam with his flurry of shots. The man made 65 as the hosts recovered to 286, but this was only a glimpse of his talent.
Bhuvneshwar hails De Villiers as the best batsman in the world and he makes a good point. The man is in great form and can play just as well across every format. Bowlers have struggled to set a field as he always seems to find a gap.
The man seemingly has no weakness and no bowler has got the measure of him in the last 14 years or so. He can change a game in the blink of an eye and plays according to the situation.
When needed, De Villiers can graft, which is a contrast to his natural game of big hitting. He is a man for any situation and can bat at any position. Add to that his keeping skills, brilliant fielding and occasional bowling – well you got the complete cricketer.
They don’t call him Superman for nothing and if you do not ground him early, he can fly high enough to hurt you.
