A newly-wed bride in Pakistan’s Muzaffargarh ended up killing 13 members of her family in a bid to murder her husband.

According to a Telegraph report, the bride named Asiya mixed poison in a glass of milk to give her husband. Unfortunately, her mother-in-law, picked the same glass to make lassi for for a family of 27. Luckily, Amjad (Asiya’s husband), refused to take the drink made by his mother.
The report states that Asiya made the plot to with her lover to escape the forced marriage two months ago.
The family initially thought that a lizard had fallen into the milk, poisoning it. But according to police, Asiya confessed to planning to murder her husband while in custody.
Forced marriages are a massive scourge in Pakistan, the Telegraph report quotes a study called UK’s Forced Marriage Unit in 2016 wherein 612 of the 1400 cases involved women being forcefully wedded.
