After being gulped down by lava, a GoPro camera had no chance of surviving. But it did survive and recorded amazing footage.
The camera belonged to Erik Storm of Kilauea EcoGuides, a tour group based in the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Storm lost his GoPro camera in a crevice that was slowly being filled with lava.
GoPro devices are claimed to be indestructible. However, this particular GoPro surviving burning lava at 1,000°C heat is nothing short of incredible.
Storm spoke to Peta Pixel after the lava cooled down and he retrieved whatever was left of his camera. Storm “thought it was a total loss” but was surprised to find the camera in a working condition.
Storm retrieved the SD card – which too had survived – and shared the recording on YouTube.
It’s truly, truly amazing.
