If you’re someone who can’t get through the day without a cup of black coffee or prefer to end your day drink like a gin and tonic, we have news for you.
A recent study claims that people who enjoy bitter foods and drinks also possess malevolent personality traits!
A research conducted by psychologists from Innbruck University in Austria, also claim these people were also more likely to exhibit antisocial personality traits, such as sadism, narcissism, psychoticism, and Machiavellianism.
People who were interviewed were asked to rank different flavours ranging from bitter, sweet, and salty on a six-point rating scale. They were also asked personality related questions that were designed to measure their levels of emotional stability.
As it turns out people who prefer bitter, salty, sour and sweet tasting foods, also exhibited the above mentioned personality traits as well as antisocial tendencies.
“The results of both studies confirmed the hypothesis that bitter taste preferences are positively associated with malevolent personality traits, with the most robust relation to everyday sadism and psychopathy,” reported The Sun.
This wasn’t the first study of it’s kind, however. Previous studies have, such as one published it the journal Appetite, suggests that a liking to bitter foods is an indication of harsher moral judgements and hostility towards others.
