Ravindra Bali, a former captain in the army who was living as a recluse in a makeshift tent on a footpath in the Pune Camp Area was beaten to death by two unidentified people.
According to police, his body was found in the Pune Cantonment area late Thursday night.
According to police the 67, former captain was assaulted by unidentified men.
“The watchman of a bungalow, who saw two people assaulting Bali and fleeing from the scene, alerted the police,” said an officer with Lashkar police station.
“Bali died of multiple head injuries around 3.30 am at the Sassoon general hospital,” said Cantonment police’s senior inspector Vasant Kunvar.
“He was not in touch with his family for several years and was leading a reclusive life. During investigations, we managed to get details of his family and this, in turn, helped us identify Bali,” the official said.
According to locals, Bali had told them in the past that he had taken voluntary retirement from the army as an officer after 17 years in service.
