Remember when money in bulk was being deposited in Jan-Dhan accounts of poor people in India during demonetization, a lot of stood in sheer bewilderment as to where it came from.
But at least they knew it for a fact why it came.
However, in what looks like a case of complete haplessness, an Australian woman wake up to a staggering $24.5 million in her account recently. The woman, who is a lawyer was very well acquainted with consequences of using this money, which is why she immediately informed the bank and did not spend.
Clare Wainwright claims that it was just a typo.
The 26-year-old received a letter from her bank back in September that the mortgage repayments for her home loan would be $25,102,107 instead of the agreed-upon $2,500. The bank, National Australia Bank (NAB) then transferred the amount to her account.
“I’m a lawyer, which is why I haven’t spent the money,” Clare told Fairfax Media.
“Mostly because I figured it wouldn’t play out that well trying to play dumb on that.”
