The Auto Expo is the biggest car show in Asia and probably the most important in the world. It may not get the same attention as something like Geneva or Frankfurt, but India is one of the largest car market in the world and car makers know it.
The expo begins on 9 February at Greater Noida and here’s a preview of all the important cars that will be showcased there.
- BMW X3
BMW will showcase the next generation mid-size SUV at the Auto Expo and it’s most likely going to be launched in the middle of the year this year. The SUV will rival the likes of Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5.
- Honda CR-V
Honda’s most important car at Auto Expo will be the new CR-V. This time around, Honda will give the SUV a diesel engine for it to be more competitive. The new CR-V is bigger than before and more luxurious than before.
- Hyundai Ioniq
At the Auto Expo, Hyundai will showcase the Ioniq – a car that is available in the international markets in hybrid, Plug-in and all-electric variants. While it may not be launched in India any time soon, it does showcase company’s technical prowess.
- Hyundai Kona
The Kona is a small-SUV and Hyundai is thought to be evaluating it for an India launch. At the Auto Expo, it will be present in the EV form and will be one of the big attractions.
- Kia SP Concept
Kia is Hyundai’s sister brand and taking center stage at Auto Expo will be the SP concept SUV. By the looks of it, seems like the SP is the size of the Hyundai Creta though the launch is still an year away. Kia will showcase a total of 16 cars at the Auto Expo.
- Tata H5 SUV
The big Tata Motors reveal at the Auto Expo will be the H5 SUV. Based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport platform, the SUV will be technologically ahead of the rest of the Tata range. The SUV is likely to be launched by the end of this year.
- Tata Racemo
Another attraction at the Tata stall at Auto Expo will be the Racemo sportscar concept. The concept had earlier debuted at Geneva Motor Show last year and is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
- Tata X451 hatchback
Tata’s challenger to the premium hatchbacks like Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 will be showcased at the Auto Expo. Codenamed X451, Tata has released a teaser of the hatchback that has been spotted testing multiple times.
- Mahindra Rexton
Apart from a host of EVs at the Auto Expo, Mahindra will also have the new Rexton SUV. Build by its subsidiary SsangYong, the Rexton may be badged a Mahindra in India and push the Nasik-based brand up the luxury ladder. The car competes with the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
- Maruti Future S
Like every Auto Expo, Maruti will have a concept vehicle that will soon make it to production. This time around it’s the small SUV tentatively named Future S. From the teaser image, it appears to be based on the new Swift platform
- Mercedes E-class All Terrain
Though estate cars haven’t been a popular segment in India, Mercedes-Benz may just change the way we look at them. At their stand at Auto Expo will be the E-class All Terrain. With butch body cladding and 4-wheel-drive, it’s a sedan that is practical and has a go-anywhere ability.
- Renault Zoe
Electric cars are the hot new trend and Renault is looking to cash in. At the Auto Expo, the company will have its Zoe electric car that has a range of 400 kms on a single charge. There is no confirmation yet if the car will be put on sale.
- Toyota Yaris
Toyota will finally have a product in the highly competitive sedan segment in the form of Yaris sedan. The car will show shown for the first time at the Auto Expo and will likely be launched later this year.
